My Menstruation My Pride Project

“My Menstruation, My Pride” is a bold initiative by Wem’Afrika that aims to break the silence and stigma surrounding menstruation and empower girls and women to embrace their cycles with pride, dignity, and knowledge. The campaign focuses on education, accessibility, and advocacy, especially in underserved and rural communities.

On May 9th, 2025, the Wem’afrika -Gender Department carried out a meaningful outreach in the Youpwe community of Douala, Cameroon, as part of our ongoing initiative to educate, empower, and support women and girls on menstrual and menopausal health. During this first phase, we focused on teenage girls, providing them with education on:
1. Understanding menstruation and bodily changes
2. Managing menstrual pain and discomfort
3. Creating reusable sanitary pads as a sustainable alternative

In addition, menstrual hygiene kits were distributed, including reusable pads and hygiene essentials, to ensure that these girls are equipped to manage their periods with dignity, safety, and confidence.
This initiative is designed to break the silence, challenge taboos, and foster a culture where menstruation and menopause are no longer sources of shame.
Let’s continue to raise awareness, promote menstrual equity, and ensure no girl or woman is left behind.
